A Joyous, Straight Heart

Our parasha begins by describing Noach’s spiritual level. He was righteous (tzaddik), complete (tamim), and walked with Hashem. We will investigate the connection between tzaddik and tamim and compare his personality to Avraham’s in light of Chazal.

I was approached by a friend who was surprised to see your column using an expression that comes straight out of another religion’s writings. Is that permitted?

The Rambam apparently understands that the important thing that comes from kiddushin is that the woman is set aside for one man alone. The main contributor to that situation is the fact that there are witnesses, which turns the union into a fact known to the public.

P’ninat Mishpat

The plaintiff (=pl) patented an invention, which the defendant (=def) used with an agreement that he would pay 2% of his sales to pl. As time went on, def improved the technology of the original patent and stopped paying the royalty, which pl still demands. Def claims that the new product is not based on pl’s patent.
